Whilst Saint Laurent takes over Dior shortly afterwards and founds his own label, Lagerfeld becomes a master of constant reinvention. The former friends become bitter rivals, not least because of Jacques de Bascher, Lagerfeld’s flamboyant partner, who also comes dangerously close to Saint Laurent.
